from Luserna San Giovanni to Bobbio Pellice
Description
We start our journey at Luserna San Giovanni in the discovery of the Pellice Valley, distinguished for the strong presence of the Waldensian culture. Luserna is situated in the heart of the valley, and its economy, like those of the other towns of the neighbouring territories, is linked to the processing of high quality Lucerne stone, and agriculture, in particular fruit growing. From the historic point of view, we would like to note the presence of important buildings such as the Palace of the Count of Luserna and the Waldensian Temple. From Luserna, we take the beautiful scenic road SP163 that will lead us to Torre Pellice, an important religious centre of the Waldensian Evangelical Churches (a visit to the Waldensian district reveals important historical buildings). Of particular interest are the buildings associated to the industrial development of Torre Pellice such as the Jenny (spinning wheel) of Ciamboun and of San Ciò and the Stamperia (printing press). A stopover in Torre Pellice may be an opportunity to sample a typical sausage of these valleys: the Mustardela. It's a sausage made with pig's blood, some meat and entrails of the pig. It is eaten cooked. From Torre Pellice we continue on towards Angrogna, which is situated on the left side of the Pellice River and is an important Waldensian centre with monuments such as the Chanforan. Characterized by an economy linked to cattle raising, summer mountain pastures and numerous chestnut forests, in Angrogna we can sample typical products of the Pellice valley like the Montegranero (a cheese made from cow's milk produced in the summer months and may be brought to the pastures), and Marroni, a chestnut variety of the Pellice Valley that has white creamy flesh with a pleasant and sweet flavour. We leave Angrogna and go back towards Luserna on our way to Rorà, a town made up of several villages situated at an altitude between 600 and 2,153 m. At Rorà, a territory rich in beech and chestnut forests, one can visit the interesting Stone Eco-museum with a section on the processing of lime. The last stop of our journey takes us to Bobbio Pellice in the territory of Prà-Barant Oasis. In the botanical garden of Col Barant Bruno Peyral we would like to point out the presence of interesting and rare botanical and wildlife species such as the lanzai Salamander.
