from Caselette to Trana

Description

Our journey starts with Caselette, a town situated at the entrance of the Susa Valley and characterized by the presence of Mount Musinè which can be reached through the St. Abaco Sanctuary where one can enjoy a beautiful view of the Alps. Among the most appreciated destinations are the Castle of Cays and the Castle of Camerletto, while those who are passionate about archaeology can visit the Villa Romana an old Roman settlement that dates back to 1700 B.C. From Caselette we proceed towards Sant'Ambrogio di Torino (St. Ambrose of Turin) to visit the magnificent Sacra di San Michele also known as St. Michael's Abbey, one of the most beautiful monuments in Piedmont. Aside from the splendid structure founded between 983 and 987 on the rocky spur of Mount Pirchiriano, the abbey is the starting point of many nature trails. The next stop is Avigliana, a city of Lakes that has the same name located right on the Natural Park of the Lakes of Avigliana. A visit to the historical centre reveals a fascinating city rich in historical beauties like the Porta Ferronia, the wall fortifications, the Clock Tower, and the Conte Rosso Square. Nature lovers will love the Natural Park of the Lakes of Avigliana, situated in the morainic amphitheatre. We end our journey at Trana, a small town of the Sangone Valley and in particular in the district of St. Bernard where the Botanical Orchard of Rea is located, with a rich collection of plants and vegetation environments typical of Piedmont. While in the Sangone Valley we can sample local products like the prized Cevrin di Cozze, cheese made with unpasteurised cow's and goat's milk.
