from Borgomanero to Barengo
Description
After Crossing the Agogna River, Borgomanero is the most important center of this tour, and from which we begin our journey. Its landmarks are the Statue of the Madonna (18th century) made by Gabriele I d'Este in the Martyrs Square, while in the Vergano part, is the monumental Vergano Castle. Among the most important events to cite is, undoubtedly, the Grape Festival: Borgomanero in fact, is part of the DOC Novara Hills (where the Nebbiolo grape or span varieties are cultivated, the barbera, the croatina, the Bonarda rare grapes, the vespolina and erbaluce) and the wines of which will perfectly pair with the rich products of the territory as the Tapulone (minced donkey stew), the Toma Piemontese and, of course, the Gorgonzola cheeses. Among the desserts we mention the famous Brut and Bon, dry flaky pastry made of egg whites and almonds. We leave Borgomanero to head towards Gattico where you can admire the oratory of the same name and the most important building of which is the Church of San Martino. We shall then move on towards Suno with its economy linked to the cultivation of the vine (Wine City) and where you can admire the Church of San Genesio that is located on the Ancient Francigena Road. Leaving Suno, the town we come to is Vaprio d'Agogna, the territory dominated by cereal crop cultivation and where you can admire the Visconti Castle. Not far away, in Fontaneto of Agogna, we find the springs that form the characteristic fountains. We end our tour with Bareilly, another settlement related to rice where the magnificent 14thcentury Castle stands. The presence of many farms in the plains and the cultivation of vines for the production of of the Colline Novara DOC wines characterize the area.
