from Romagnano Sesia to Fara Novarese
Description
For those who love wine tours, this is a perfect opportunity to discover the great wines of the Novara Hills. So let's start from Boca, home of the homonymous wine produced from Nebbiolo grapes, vespolina, rare grapes; to continue towards Romagnano Sesia where one can visit the Cellar of the Saints, a local winemaker who was part of the lost Abbey of St. Silvanus, and the majestic Hunting Villa, built by the architect Alessandro Antonelli, home to the Historical Museum of Ethnography of Bassa Valsesia. The town is part of the Nature Reserve of Baragge, a vast area characterized by grasslands and moorlands and along the road that leads to Valsesia, are the ruins of the Medieval Bridge that once (12th century) connected with Romagnano Gattinara. Before leaving Romagnano Sesia, we take the opportunity to enjoy a typical product of the Novara delicatessen: Mortadella Liver. From Romagnano we move to Ghemme (City of Wine), a great name of Novara viticulture: Ghemme is indeed a fine red wine to accompany red meats and stews, produced in the territory of the same name, and partly in that of Romagnano Sesia. But Ghemme is not just wine: it would suffice to mention the Shelter, a real fortified village, the Parish Church and the Castle of Cavenago. Leaving Ghemme we head towards Sizzano where the protagonist is another great wine, Sizzano, produced entirely in the territory of the municipality of the same name. For those who love wine and wine history, it is a must to visit Palazzo Tornielli which houses a big press. Also noteworthy is the Shelter and the Medieval Church of Saint Gratus (11th century). The end of our wine tour is Fara Novarese which produces Fara wine (the production zone is the area of Fara and to Briona) to be combined with the excellent Salame d'Oca (Goose Salami).
