from Ronco Biellese to Guardabosone

Description

We begin our journey at Ronco Biellese where we can visit the Terracotta Eco-museum then we proceed towards Zumaglia, a municipality that belongs to the Cervo Valley, situated in a scenic area where the Brich stands out, that is, an old castle that dates back to the 13th century (restored in 1937). After having tasted those delicious Torcetti, we proceed Pettinengo thus entering the Mosso Valley and the hilly area of Biella, with its vast chestnut forests (they reach up to Cossato). For those who love rustic cakes, they will surely appreciate the classic Torta Matsafam prepared with alternate layers of slices of stale bread and fruit. We also recommend Villa Bellia and its surrounding park dedicated to the family of the same name, pioneers of the wool industry. Next stop is Mosso Valley, part of the fluvial strip of the river Strona, that contains evident testimonies of the manufacturing activities that defined these territories. At Trivero (home of Ermenegildo Zegna), you mustn't forego a visit to the Zegna Oasis that crosses numerous pathways and most especially we will be able to walk through Panoramica Zegna that starts at Trivero and ends at the Bocchetto di Sessera, which is also the final destination of the Transumando event where herds of cattle leave from Cerale di Camandona and go along the old road of the Alps. Grazing land and pastures characterize this upper valley territory of Sessera and where the Teglie, that is, typical mountain huts covered with rye hay are still present. It is a must to sample the local products such as the Murtarat or the Toma of Biella with some Pan Robi, local bread made from corn, wheat or rye flour. For those who prefer religious pilgrimages, at Trivero, we recommend the Moorland Shrine that is part of The Road of Faith project. We leave Trivero and proceed towards Pray one of the first towns of Lower Sessera Valley and seat of the Mountain Community. Do not miss the Riccio Palace one of the most beautiful aristocratic homes of the valley; and the Wheel Factory an important testimony of Biella's once flourishing textile industry, a true example of industrial archaeology. We leave Pray and head towards Crevacuore, on the left bank of the river Sessera, where once stood a grand castle. It would be fitting to make a stop over to sample the Canestrelli, typical biscuits made with special moulds. We end our journey at Guardabosone located on a scenic hill. You must visit the Museum of Natural Sciences, the Botanical Orchard and the History and Agricultural Traditions Museum. For those who love genuine flavours, we recommend pickled candied apples prepared with the local varieties and the Ajucche, spontaneous herbaceous plants with beautiful blue flowers used in the preparation to tasty soups.
