from Bra to Guarene

Description

Our itinerary starts from the little town of Bra just outside Roero, the location of the international Slow Food movement and important fairs such as Cheese, which is dedicated to cheeses from all over the world. Bra, a baroque little town with important historical buildings such as the Town Hall, Mathis Palace, Garrone Palace and St. Andrew's Church (all located in Piazza Caduti per la Libertà square), gave its name to one of Piedmont's most important cheese: PDO Bra Cheese (both Soft and Hard, depending on the aging). Among the most appreciated local products there is Bra Sausage, the only one prepared with veal meat and to be eaten fresh. Upon leaving Bra, we cross the area of Roero, which is an enchanting and in some ways mysterious territory, to reach Monteu Roero, a magnificent example of a Roero municipality perched on the Rocche, peculiar geologic formations of the Roero area. From Monteu Roero we move on to Canale, where the enchanting Malabaila Castle is located. This castle dates back to the 15th century and it was later expanded and modified. Canale is an area where fruits are grown, such as Canale Peaches and Madernassa Pears, and important wines are produced, such as Roero and Roero Arneis (the former is produced from nebbiolo grapes, with a little part of arneis grapes, and the latter is produced from local arneis grapes). After Canale we reach Govone, a municipality that is part of the circuit of the Langhe and Roero Castles (the others are Barolo, Benevello, Grinzane, Magliano, Mango, Monesiglio, Monticello d'alba, Pralormo, Prunetto, Roddi, Saliceto, and Serralunga d'Alba). In Govone we can find one of Piedmont's most beautiful Castles, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with other Residences of the Royal House of Savoy. We end our Roero itinerary at Guarene, a magnificent terrace over the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato areas, where a majestic 18th-century Castle is found.
