from Pralormo to Arignano

Description

We start our journey at Pralormo, situated between the Poirino Plateau and the beginning of Roero. The first place we visit is the monument symbol of the city, that is, the Beraudo Castle that goes back to the 8th century, and the park of which hosts the beautiful Messer Tulipano event that takes place every year. For those who love nature hikes, one will find the different artificial and semi-artificial basins that distinguish this area very interesting; among these are the Spina Lake and the Ternavasso Lake wherein the prized Golden Hunched Tench of Pianalto di Poirino is bred. It is a fresh water fish famous for its lean, light and compact meat. After leaving Pralormo we proceed to Poirino in the heart of the plateau, a territory characterized mainly by its clay soil, numerous watercourses, rows of tall trees as well as fishponds rich in aquatic flora and fauna. Particularly interesting is the historical centre with monuments such as the Bell Tower in the Baroque style, the Church of St. Sebastian and the Casa del Rospo dating back to the late medieval era. Among the notable buildings to visit is without a doubt the Ternavasso Castle with its Hunting Wing where Vittorio Emanuele III stayed several times, and the Valgorrea Building, the oldest building in Poirino. Next stop of our journey is Villanova d'Asti, an agricultural and livestock centre between the Province of Asti and that of Turin, known for the prized Blond Hen of Piedmont and the breeding farms for the Piedmont bovine variety. We continue our journey and reach the city of Chieri, rich in history and tradition, and linked to wine production of important wines like the Freisa. In the past, Chieri was home to important manufacturing activities such as textile and food industries as evidenced by the Textile Museum and the Martini Museum. Even from the historical and artistic point of view, the city has a lot to offer thanks to interesting monuments like the Church of St. George, the Duomo (cathedral), Mazzini Square (centre of "medieval2 Chieri), Palazzo Valfrè, the Church of St. Bernard, and let's not forget, the numerous paintings of Guglielmo Caccia also known as Moncalvo who worked at Chieri at the end of the 1500s. Our journey ends in nearby Arignano where we can stop and sample the delicious Torta di Arignano, a cake made with apples, pears and chocolate.
