from Lagnasco to Manta

Description

We start our itinerary in the area of Saluzzo, precisely from Lagnasco, a well-known village with an economy based on fruit farming, especially of the Cuneo Actinidia kiwi and Cuneo Red Apple. In the heart of Lagnasco we find the magnificent Tapparelli D'Azeglio Castle, rich in frescoes of the Renaissance period. In a few minutes from Lagnasco, we arrive at Saluzzo, a city of primary importance and the ancient capital of the Marchesato area. A visit to the splendid historical centre discloses a village rich in monuments such as the Castiglia, Cavassa House, the Ancient Town Hall and Ascent to the Castle. In Saluzzo we suggest a stop to taste one of the typical products of this area, the fine Saluzzo White Hen, and to try a chalice of Pelaverga of Saluzzo Hills. Many are the events organized by the Amleto Bertoni Foundation and dedicated to the products of the territory: Ramuliva Festival, C'è Fermento!Beer Festival, St Andrea Festival and the National Exhibition of Agricultural Mechanics. We go on with our trip passing near the Bronda Valley to arrive at Castellar (do not miss a visit to the Castle) and Pagno, a graceful village known for fruit farming and especially for the Saluzzo Ramassin plums. From Bronda Valley we cross the nearby Po Valley to reach Revello, a town rich with historical evidence such as the Clock Tower, Bramafam Fortress, and Collegiata Church. A few kilometres from here we find the monumental Staffarda Abbey founded between 1127 and 1135 by Saluzzo marquises and entrusted to the Cistercians. The last stopover of our trip is Manta, the location of the fine Castle (a FAI property). Here we will discover another typical fruit of the Saluzzo territory, which is the Santa Clara plum and taste the Quagliano of Saluzzo Hills DOC, a delicious dessert wine.
