This is produced with the short Gamba Rossa grape cultivar, better known with the local synonym of "Gamba di Pernice," a grape variety found in the municipality of Calosso and the neighbouring communes, which had risked extinction before it was "rediscovered" and restored to new life, just about a decade ago.
The product specifications mention three types: Calosso, Calosso Riserva and Calosso Passarà (from dried grapes).
Production Area
The production area of the grapes are able to produce wines with a protected designation of origin "Calosso" and covers the entire territory of the municipalities of: Calosso, Castagnole Lanze and Costigliole D'Asti.

Calosso wine matches perfectly with rich, savoury and spicy dishes. The passito is a structured and harmonious wine, great as a "meditation" wine.
