Monferrato Wine
The entire area composed of numerous municipalities of Asti and Alessandria are renowned for the production of various types of wine, all marked with the sole "Monferrato" designation of controlled origin.
This designation, without any additional specifications, is reserved for White and Red wines obtained with grapes gathered from the vineyards growing one or more red berry cultivars, of the same colour, non-aromatic, "recommended" or "licensed" for the Provinces of Asti and Alessandria.
Wines bearing the "Monferrato" designation can also be further labelled with the specific designation of:
Chiaretto or Ciaret, Dolcetto, Freisa and Casalese Cortese.
